Terror funding: NIA raids 16 places in Kashmir, Delhi

Srinagar, September 6The NIA on Wednesday conducted searches at 16 locations in Kashmir and Delhi on traders who were allegedly indulging in hawala operations and using the money for funding terror and separatist activities.Raids were conducted at 11 places in Kashmir and five in Delhi.”The NIA is conducting searches at 11 locations in Srinagar and five locations in Delhi in connection with the terror funding case in Jammu and Kashmir. The searches are going on,” NIA Inspector General Alok Mittal told The Tribune.The raids come a day after the NIA arrested two persons, including a freelance photo-journalist, who allegedly indulged in stone pelting and mobilised support against security personnel through social media.The central agency described them as “chronic stone pelters”. These raids and arrests by the NIA is part of its investigation in a case registered on May 30 in which the leader of the Pakistan-based Jamaat-ud-Dawa and banned terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hafiz Saeed, was named as an accused.NIA has arrested seven persons in the case of alleged funding of terror and subversive activities in the Kashmir Valley to fuel unrest there on June 24.It also arrested an influential businessman Zahoor Watali last month for his role in alleged terror funding.
Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association president Mian Qayoom has also been summon ed by the agency in connection with the case.
