Reliance Jio marketing head hacked to death

A 38-year-old marketing head of Reliance Jio was hacked to death with an axe by three unidentified bike riders near his house at Uppal Housing Apartment, Mani Majra, last night.

 

The incident has been caught on a CCTV camera, but the footage of the assailants is not clear. Till the filing of this report, there was no clue to the assailants. The police believe the trio was known to the victim and robbery did not appear to be the prime motive.

 

According to the police, the victim, Vineet Tehran (38), a resident of the Modern Housing Complex, was working at the Mohali Phase VII office of Reliance. He is survived by his wife Devka and a son and mother. His father died around 20 years ago while his younger brother is in the merchant navy and is expected to reach India by Tuesday.

 

The incident occurred around 11.30 pm when the victim was sitting in his Mahindra XUV (CH 01 BA 4440) parked near the entrance gate of Uppal Housing Apartment.

 

The police said the CCTV footage showed three men coming on a motorcycle and sitting in his vehicle.

 

After sometime, they came out of the vehicle while arguing with the victim. In a fit of rage, they hit him on his head with an axe thrice. He fell on the road in a pool of blood.

 

The security guard of the society witnessed the incident and rushed to the spot. However, by that time, the assailants had fled on their bike. The police said they also took away three mobile phones, a wallet and the vehicle keys of the victim. The victim was wearing a gold kara, which was was not taken away by them.

 

The guard raised the alarm and informed the police about the incident. The police rushed to the spot and took the victim to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, Chandigarh, where he was declared brought dead.

 

A case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Mani Majra police station.

 

He had no enmity: Kin    

 

Relatives of the victim said he did not have enmity with anybody.  Rohit, a cousin of the victim, demanded the immediate arrest of the assailants, but said they did not suspect anybody at the moment. The body has been kept at the mortuary of the GMSH.

 

Police checkingphone records

A police official said they were checking the phone records of the victim as he was talking to one of his friends when the three assailants came to meet him. The police are also checking the mobile phones which were active in the area when the incident took place.
