PUNJAB ready to ROCK LONDON by creating History

5 Ludhiana student Designers all set to create History by Showcasing

at Fashion Scout during London Fashion Week

18TH FEBRUARY 2017 WILL BE RED LETTER DAY FOR LUDHIANA AS FIRST TIME ANY DESIGNER FROM PUNJAB WILL SHOWCASE

AT FASHION SCOUT DURING LONDON FASHION WEEK

SPRING SUMMER 2017 WAS THE FIRST SEASON SINCE 1943 FOR ANY INDIAN STUDENT BODY TO PRESENT ITS COLLECTION AT MAJOR INTERNATIONAL FASHION WEEK

For the first time since after 1943,  INIFD student designers created history at Fashion Scout during London Fashion Week where they presented their Collection and captured the hearts of British Fashion world and their designs were featured prominently in British Vogue, Hello magazine, Daily Mail, Frumpy to Funky, The Upcoming, Rediff.com, 55 Factory and many more…  taking India to the International Fashion circuit.

Now 5 Punjabi Student designers, which includes 2 Alumni and 3 Student designers from INIFD Ludhiana are all set to carry the legacy forward by showcasing as Proud Winners & Runners Up, at Fashion Scout during London Fashion Week, thus bringing fashion of Punjab on International map.

The 3 Winners include 2 INIFD Ludhiana Alumni – Renuka Malhi & Sunil Vinayak and present student Disha Kaura. The 2 Runners Up are Gurnam Kaur & Pavneet Kaur both pursuing Fashion Designing from INIFD Ludhiana.

  1. ALUMNI WINNER DESIGNER Renuka Malhi-

            BRAND RE’ MALHI- United States.

An alumnus of INIFD Ludhiana who herself is a brand in the US was all praise for her mentoring at INIFD Ludhiana. Though a late starter in 2008 due to family responsibilities, she proudly informed that she made it big at the grand show in New York called ” World Fashion Parade” along with showcasing in many other prestigious TV and Radio channels like B4U, Radio Zindagi, Nargis Dutt Cancer Foundation and many more. Re’ Malhi’s unique styles and rich fabrics and flares created a sensation at every event and every piece was applauded on the ramp- she wrote in her note, since she could not attend the Press Meet herself as she is reaching London directly from New York.

Renuka Malhi’s collection for Fashion Scout during London Fashion Week” called ‘ICONIC TAJ MAHAL’ is based on the inherent beauty of monumental art seen in the inlays of Taj Mahal, exquisite jewellery worn by erstwhile queens of India and regal lifestyle led by them. Each garment is a master piece in itself.

  1. Sunil Vinayak –

A promising designer today, Sunil Raj Vinayak on being asked about his journey to success, modestly asserted that it has been a roller coaster ride. Lots of upswings, lots of pitfalls, encouraging moments and moments of dillusion and disappointment. But end of the tunnel has been bright and his brand is a much preferred one both amongst the customers in India and abroad. He was all praise for the faculty, infrastructure and facilities at INIFD Ludhiana.

His collection – ‘Birds of Paradise’ being showcased at Fashion Scout during London Fashion Week is based on the transition of culture- from Indian to western to European depicted by the different shapes and forms of the embroidered bird, which takes its maiden flight from India and takes its culture along, imbibing various cultures it flies through, leaving an imprint on other cultures. The embroidery, however, takes on the old Indian technique called Tilla work and Kala Batun, which is Dori thread-work.

  1. STUDENT WINNER DESIGNER – DISHA KAURA

The pride of India at some time, her collection is called KOHINOOR, which itself forms the underlying theme for this young student designer’s collection set to be showcased at Fashion Scout during London Fashion Week. It highlights the rich and luxurious attire worn by kings of India and on the contrary, their wives wore such simple attire. “I have tried to bring in adaptation of the same luxury of the kings to the feminine gender, rendering empowerment to them and bringing them at par with men in the contemporary world’- said a beaming Disha.

The budding designer added,”Life hasn’t been the same ever since I joined INIFD Ludhiana. Six months back, I was still in two minds whether to pursue a career in design. I could not have imagined that I shall be a proud winner at one of the most prestigious Fashion Platforms of the world so soon. The grind has taken life out of me in the last three months or so since the time I was shortlisted from amongst hundreds of contestants in India but the learning has been immense. Every single moment has kept me on toes, had sleepless nights and anxiety level is rising with every passing day. But, I am very proud, and my parents are on cloud nine for this unbelievable success I have got so early in my learning phase itself. My friends are happy and envious too”.

  1. STUDENT ‘RUNNERS UP’ DESIGNER – GURNAM KAUR

Gurnam’s love for animals took her to her collection called ‘PICHWAI RAJ – the fabric hanging behind the sculptures of Hindu daieties, an epitome of love, be it towards mankind or the animals, typically synonymous with Lord Krishna. The cosmic colours used in her collection symbolise the love for animals. Every garment made out of vibrant coloured fabrics has picked up the motifs of animals, accessorised with chokers with silk strings, metallic bells. “ All through my design and creation, I had the image of a modern girl, who is dressed up in a classy way, using best of fabrics for her garments embroidered and embellished in the richest possible manner. She does not aspire to be respected but earns it herself as she deserves it well” enlightened the young and pretty designer student.

  • STUDENT ‘RUNNERS UP’ DESIGNER – PAVNEET KAUR

Young Pavneet loves to experiment. Her collection : ‘MODERN MARIAM’                 is an amalgamation of various cultures of the Indian heritage. What better could form the basis of her collection than Rani Jodha Bai who was born and brought up in Rajputana cult of Rajasthan and obviously had the culture of the place, but got married to the Mughal king. The transition from one culture to the other of Mariam Uz-Zamani Beghum, better known as Jodha Bai inspired Pavneet to have the flavour of traditional motifs such as lotus flower and PARINDA – the bird reflecting Rajasthan and capturing the vast grandeur of the state juxtaposed with kundan, emeralds, pearls, zardozi and tilla, showcasing the richness and royalty of the Mughals.
