Mann flays Capt over unfulfilled promises

Aam Aadmi Party state president Bhagwant Mann has accused the Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal and the Bhartiya Janta Party of ruining the state through “corruption and mismanagement” during the last three decades.Addressing the party conference at Chhapar Mela, Mann rued that leaders of these parties had been trying to grab power by making false promises during elections. “However, once they ride the horse, they remember only their own interests,” said Mann in his satiric style. He alleged that more than 200 farmers and labourers had allegedly committed suicide because Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had backtracked from his promise to waive all agricultural loans including those from commission agents. The enhancement of old age pension to Rs 2,500 per month, jobs to unemployed youth, complete eradication of corruption, drug peddling and various kinds of mafia were among the promises which are yet to be fulfilled, he said.Mann said the farmers were also exposed to fake insecticides and low-quality seeds, which forced them to plough back their cotton fields.Lok Insaaf Party patron and legislator Balwinder Bains lambasted the Congress and the SAD-BJP alliance for auctioning natural resources, particularly water. Bains demanded an Assembly resolution for the recovery of royalty of water amounting to Rs 16 lakh crore from Rajasthan and other states.Convener of the conference Darshan Singh Shankar, leader of Opposition Sarvjit Kaur, state secretary Gulshan Chhabra, chairman of Kisaan Sangarsh Samiti Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Professor Baljinder Kaur, Meet Hayer, Pirmal Singh, Amarjit Singh Sandhoa (all MLAs) also spoke on the occasion.
