Liquor in hotels, restaurants soon as Governor gives assent to excise Bill

Chandigarh: Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore has given assent to Punjab Excise (Amendment) Act Bill which was passed by Punjab Assembly last month.

The Bill has now become an Act and it is likely to be notified soon.

This will clear way for serving liquor at hotels, restaurants, clubs and other notified places located within 500 metres of the highways.

After formal notification, the Excise Department will start issuing licences/permits. This [process is likely to start next week.

It may be mentioned that this Bill has been challenged in Punjab and Haryana High Court. The next date of hearing is fixed for July 24, 2017
