Baba Moti Ram Mehra community extends support to Congress
Chandigarh, February 2
The Baba Moti Ram Mehra community has extended support to the Punjab Congress, which it says is a secular party that always takes care of the interests of Dalits, poor and backward classes.
Office-bearers and workers of the Baba Moti Ram Mehra Kashyap Rajput Nishad Jheevar Kuhar Samaj Bhalai Manch (Punjab) on Wednesday held a meeting where they decided to unanimously extend support to Congress for the Punjab elections, according to the Manch state president Bikar Singh Mehra.
Recalling the various measures taken for the community during the earlier tenure of Captain Amarinder Singh as Chief Minister of Punjab, Bikar said a Yaadgari Gate was constructed in the name of Amar Shaheed Baba Moti Ram Mehra at Fatehgarh Sahib. He further said that the Captain Amarinder government had extended assistance for the various welfare schemes being pursued by their Manch.
Bikar Singh said that the Captain government had given benefits to their community by disbursing grants under Indira Awaas Yojna for construction of kuccha houses and scholarships to school students. “But the Akali government discontinued all these welfare measures, thereby depriving our community of its genuine rights,” he said.
